One River’s Teen Art programs are built around our unique, project-based curriculum that celebrates the most compelling artists and techniques from today and the last 50 years. We make learning art fun and produce ambitious artistic outcomes across a wide array of materials, subject matter and complexity. Students have fun, develop their personal art skills, gain knowledge of art history and make friends.
Choose Your Class Type
Focus on Drawing (Grades 6-12)
Become an experienced drawer with strong technical skills by mastering the principles of drawing including line, tone, light, texture, composition, spacial depth, anatomy and perspective. Explore portraiture, figure drawing, still lifes, landscapes, architectural and interior drawing, imaginative imagery and abstraction.
Focus on Manga (Grades 6-12)
Manga, the popular Japanese style of cartooning, has become widely known for its humorous storylines, exaggerated emotions and dynamic characters. In this course, students will develop skills across drawing, painting, illustration, and character design while concentrating on a variety of Japanese styles. Projects include creating original manga style comic books, illustrations, storyboards, character sculptures and stop motion animations. Students will explore both traditional and contemporary manga artists while examining classics like Akira and Naruto to westernized versions of manga such as Fred Gallagher’s Megatokyo and Takashi Murakami.
The Portfolio Development Program at One River School is the most comprehensive and sophisticated approach for helping pre-college teens create a portfolio that expresses their individual artistic sensibility. Our program has helped numerous students achieve entry into prestigious art schools nationally. The course is offered as a 15 week session and a summer intensive.
